About the course
The Bachelor of Applied Science (Nautical Science) at the Australian Maritime College prepares you for professional work at sea and across the maritime industry. You’ll build skills in navigation, vessel handling, cargo and passenger operations, marine legislation, vessel management and shipboard safety. The degree aligns with professional short courses and includes practical sea-going training, with pathways toward an AMSA Certificate of Competency (subject to requirements). This is an undergraduate nautical science program.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for operational and leadership roles in the merchant fleet and related maritime sectors. Career pathways can include deck officer roles such as watchkeeper and mate, progressing toward master-level responsibilities (subject to sea time and regulatory requirements). You may also work in vessel operations, marine safety and compliance, port and shipping operations, or broader maritime management roles.
