Tempted to pursue a degree in law with the thought of earning big bucks? Ask yourself these questions before considering your future career as a lawyer:

  • Do you thrive at influencing and persuading others?
  • Do you have a passion for upholding justice and helping the underprivileged?
  • Do you plan to involve your future career in both business and the legal field?

If your answer is “YES!”, here is a sneak peek at what you would encounter in your future study and career.

Law is a system of rules created to regulate the behaviour of the citizen. It is essential to ensure people act right and are safe from danger. Hence, lawyers, who are professionals qualified to offer advice about the law or represent someone in legal matters, are a crucial part of the law and form the backbone of the legal system. In Malaysia, lawyers specialize either as advocates or solicitors.

Generally, the legal professions in Malaysia are litigation (involves in advocacy in the court), corporate (mainly providing liability-related advice to clients), and conveyancing (focus on the sale and purchase agreement for a property). To be an advocate and solicitor in Malaysia, law students need to undertake a course from institutions/bodies that are recognised by Legal Profession Qualifying Board (LPQB).
