Discover Biomedical Science

The study of biomedicine is a field of medical science that often focuses on learning about the systems and structure of the body. This may include studying certain mechanisms, including the brain, nerves or heart. If you are passionate about biological science or health, then this can be your choice of career.

Your future as a biomedical science graduate should be brilliant with nearly 90% of biomedical and biotechnology jobs created in the past 10 years. A course in biomedical sciences will provide you with a strong foundation to pursue academic research. A graduate in this field may also work in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, or apply for an accelerated graduate-entry course in medicine.

Here are the top universities in Australia that offers students’ favorite biomedicine programs.

  • Monash University

The undergraduate biomedicine program at Monash University gives you the flexibility to tailor your studies to fit your interests. You also have the chance to do a double degree with another engineering, commerce, or law course.

At the postgraduate level, Monash University also offers you the Master of Biomedical and Health Science, a coursework degree to be undertaken in key research areas in the sub-Faculty of Biomedical and Psychological Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

  • University of Western Australia

You may choose one or two specializations from fourteen majors available in the biomedical science undergraduate degree program at UWA. As a Biomedical Science student, you’ll be taught by world-class researchers in cutting-edge laboratories and tutorial rooms at UWA’s main campus and at the Queen Elizabeth II hospital campus.

If you have already had a degree and would like to pursue a master in this field, UWA also offers courses in biomedical science, bioinformatics, as well as bioinformatics.

  • University of Adelaide

The University of Adelaide is home to Australia’s first genome editing facility and the Australian Institute for Machine Learning, a world leader in medical machine learning research. The university offers a number of biomedical science or allied health programs. Depending on your major, you may conduct practical work through placement in a professional research laboratory during your study.

If you have concerns about improving global health, the university also offers a Master in Biopharmaceutical Engineering program, giving you the chance to work on a research project with supervision and mentorship from a world-class research-active academic and/or a recognized industry expert.
