About the course
UOW’s Doctor of Philosophy (Clinical Psychology) combines a substantial supervised research thesis (about two thirds of the degree) with advanced coursework and supervised clinical placements. Designed for graduates of an accredited four-year psychology program, it provides structured training and practice to meet requirements for general psychologist registration and preparation for a clinical psychology registrar pathway. Study typically blends coursework across years with sustained research throughout.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for professional practice and advanced research in clinical psychology, with training in assessment, intervention, ethics and communication supported by supervised placements in university and external clinics. The program supports eligibility for general registration as a psychologist and preparation for entry to a clinical psychology registrar program, leading toward area-of-practice endorsement. Career pathways include clinical psychologist roles and research positions in health services and mental health settings.
