About the course
RMIT’s PhD (Design) is a research degree for candidates who want to investigate design in depth and contribute new knowledge to the discipline. You will develop a substantial research project, supported by expert supervision, that examines design theory, practice and application and may redefine aspects of design. Study is available on campus with continuous intake and scholarship closing dates. This is a doctoral qualification in Design & Visual Art. The programme explores creative technologies, digital media research, and interdisciplinary innovation in multimedia practice and theory.
Career outcome
Graduates build advanced research and critical practice capabilities suited to roles in academia, design research and innovation-led organisations. Outcomes may include careers as university researcher or lecturer, design strategist, research lead, consultant, or creative R&D specialist in industry, government or cultural institutions. The doctorate also supports independent practice and leadership in complex design projects where rigorous inquiry and original contribution are required.
