About the course
Introduction to Academic Studies helps international students strengthen academic English and core university study skills before commencing a UOW degree. The course covers essay writing, reading and analysing journal articles, oral presentations, academic interaction, and basic research techniques. It also supports transition to living and studying in Australia through social orientation and excursions. This is a short, on-campus English preparation course. The programme develops education knowledge and teaching-related skills aligned with its qualification level.
Career outcome
This short pre-university program supports entry into further study by building confidence in academic English and the expectations of Australian higher education. Graduates are better prepared for UOW undergraduate or postgraduate degree study, with improved writing, reading, presentation and research skills, plus familiarity with academic culture. It is designed as a pathway to successful university study rather than direct employment outcomes in English & Modern Languages. Preparing graduates for education-related roles and further study pathways matched to the programme level.
