About the course

The Master of Sports Medicine is designed for qualified practitioners seeking advanced expertise in sports and exercise medicine for athletes of all ages and abilities. The course links theory and practice across athlete physiology, biomechanics and performance, and sports injury prevention, diagnosis and management. Students learn from internationally recognised sports medicine experts and clinicians, with opportunities to appraise authentic consultations of real clinical cases in a flexible online format.

What you might learn

Students develop specialised capabilities in athlete assessment and case management, injury prevention strategies, and evidence-based diagnosis, management and rehabilitation. The course builds competence in designing, evaluating and implementing training and clinical interventions to optimise function and performance across diverse sporting and population contexts. It also aims to develop leadership skills to contribute to best-practice sports medicine and advance professional practice.

Career outcome

Graduates can apply advanced sports and exercise medicine skills in clinical practice and athlete support settings, working with recreational through to elite athletes across different ages and abilities. The qualification supports career progression into specialist roles focused on injury prevention, rehabilitation, performance optimisation and multidisciplinary athlete management in sports teams, clinics and health organisations. Graduates may also be eligible to apply for the Australian Physiotherapy Association's Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist title or the Australian Podiatry Association's Certified Sports Podiatrist program (where applicable).

Entry requirements

Designed for doctors, physiotherapists, and podiatrists with a minimum of three years of relevant sports medicine clinical experience. English language requirement: IELTS 7.0 with no band less than 7.0.
