About the course
This advanced social research methods degree prepares you to understand and analyse social change using data and evidence. Delivered by POLIS: The Centre for Social Policy Research, it combines rigorous training with applied policy and societal focus. You learn from expert academics who are active researchers with government and industry links, building capability to conduct, commission and evaluate high-quality social science research.
What you might learn
You will develop advanced quantitative and qualitative research skills, including statistics foundations, survey analysis, qualitative data collection and mixed-method approaches. The program emphasises ethical and practical research design, analysing demographic and social data, and using evidence to answer policy questions. A substantial thesis builds independent research capability, strengthening your ability to create, interpret and communicate findings for academic and real-world contexts.

Graduates can pursue roles involving social research and policy analysis across government agencies, consulting and private-sector organisations, NGOs and research institutes. Entry requirements
Entry requires either a cognate Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 6/7, plus approval of an identified supervisor for the research project/thesis; or a Bachelor degree plus a Graduate Certificate/Diploma in a cognate discipline with a minimum GPA of 5/7, plus supervisor approval. English language requirements also apply. To enrol in the thesis, written supervisor agreement is required in advance.
