About the course

The Master of Science (Physics) is for graduates with a strong physics background who want to extend their knowledge or prepare for higher degree research. You will deepen theoretical and practical physics capability while building research and professional skills, including ethical and global perspectives. The program culminates in a supervised research thesis, typically in the final two semesters, developing communication and technical expertise in advanced Physics at masters level.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles across physics-intensive industries and research settings, including optics, telecommunications, instrumentation, acoustics and geophysics. Career paths may include research and development scientist, scientific officer, laboratory technical officer, defence scientist, patent examiner, or graduate research officer, with teaching also an option. The degree supports employment or progression to higher degree research in Physics at masters level. Preparing graduates for research scientist, laboratory leadership, and specialist technical roles in the sciences.

Entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in Physics (or with a major sequence in Physics) or a closely related discipline. Knowledge of second year physics and mathematics is assumed.
