About the course
Deakin’s Master of Science – IFM is a higher degree by research that builds advanced capability in biological, chemical and related materials sciences. You will work with an Institute for Frontier Materials supervisor, develop a defined research project and complete a major thesis (externally examined), with at least one coursework unit. The course is designed for sustained, independent research training in the sciences at master’s level. The programme deepens scientific methodology, data interpretation, and applied research skills for laboratory and field-based careers.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for research-focused careers in biological, chemical and materials science contexts, including roles in laboratories, research institutes and R&D teams in industry and government. The degree supports progression to further research study (including PhD pathways) and builds skills in designing and conducting independent research, analysing results and communicating findings through a substantial thesis in the sciences.
