About the course
The Master of Research (SMAH) combines research training, coursework and an externally examined thesis to prepare you for advanced research. You complete 96 credit points: 48 credit points of research training and coursework in year one, followed by a 48 credit point thesis in year two assessed by two external examiners. Research areas are offered across science, medicine and health disciplines at UOW. The programme develops advanced clinical reasoning, health leadership, and evidence-based practice for complex care environments.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for research-focused roles in universities, hospitals, government and industry, as well as for progression to doctoral study. The degree builds skills in research design, ethics, critical analysis and scholarly communication, supporting careers such as research assistant/associate, clinical or laboratory research roles, research project officer and higher degree researcher. Outcomes align with research pathways in health and related sciences. Preparing graduates for clinical leadership, health management, and advanced nursing or allied health specialist roles.
