About the course
The Master of Research comprises advanced research training and an independent research project. You complete 96 credit points: the first year focuses on research training and coursework, and the second year is a 48 credit point thesis examined by two external assessors. This pathway is designed to build research capability and prepare you for higher degree research and professional research roles in Earth and Environmental Sciences. The programme deepens scientific methodology, data interpretation, and applied research skills for laboratory and field-based careers.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for research-focused roles across government, industry and consulting, as well as pathways into doctoral study. Potential directions include environmental analysis, geoscience and earth systems research, resource and land management, and roles supporting policy and sustainability initiatives. The degree develops skills in research design, critical analysis and thesis writing for research careers in Earth and Environmental Sciences.
