About the course
ANU’s Master of Public Health (Advanced) is a two-year program designed to build contemporary, globally focused public health expertise through applied learning. You can study online or on campus, combining core public health courses with electives aligned to your interests and workplace needs. The Advanced stream includes a substantial research project and thesis, adding depth for students seeking stronger analytical and research capability in public health. The programme develops advanced clinical reasoning, health leadership, and evidence-based practice for complex care environments.
What you might learn
You will develop skills to understand and address major public health challenges using practical methods for evidence-based analysis and decision-making. The program builds capability in epidemiology, biostatistics, health promotion, determinants of health, and health services research and policy. You also gain research training through design and methods coursework and an applied research project, strengthening your ability to plan, conduct and communicate public health research.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue roles across government, NGOs, health services, research institutes and international agencies, supporting population health improvement and policy development. Typical pathways include public health officer/adviser, epidemiology or surveillance roles, health promotion practitioner, program evaluator, health services researcher, and policy analyst. The Advanced research and thesis component can also support progression into research-focused positions or further study in public health and population health fields.
Entry requirements
Admission requirements are not specified here. Applicants typically need a recognised bachelor degree or equivalent, and may need to meet additional criteria set by the college. As an advanced program with a research component, progression commonly requires strong academic performance and supervisor approval for the research project. English-language proficiency requirements may apply for international applicants (e.g., IELTS or equivalent).
