About the course

The Master of Project Management prepares graduates from any discipline to manage projects using evidence-based decision making and contemporary management practice. You complete a common management core, then build depth in project management with options to broaden into leadership, technology, risk, accounting, strategy and international business. The program can be tailored through ANU-wide electives or an additional specialisation, and may include industry placement opportunities.

What you might learn

You will develop practical and analytical project management capability, grounded in core management disciplines. Studies build skills in planning and delivery, governance and organisational design, leadership and change, technology-enabled project work, monitoring and control, and managing risk and resilience. The program emphasises innovative problem solving, clear communication, ethical decision making and working effectively in diverse teams and global contexts.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles managing projects and programs across government, consulting, construction and infrastructure, technology, finance and other industries. Typical pathways include project manager, program/portfolio officer, project coordinator, PMO analyst, risk or governance specialist, change and transformation support roles, and operations or business improvement positions. The degree also supports progression to leadership roles requiring structured planning, stakeholder management and accountable delivery.

Entry requirements

Applicants need a recognised bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least GPA 5.0/7.0, or GPA 4.0/7.0 with additional qualifications and/or experience. Pathways include: honours degree (GPA 4.0/7.0), bachelor plus a graduate certificate (both GPA 4.0/7.0), or a graduate certificate (GPA 4.0/7.0) plus 3 years full-time equivalent professional experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1 in a related field.
