About the course

The Professional Writing and Publishing major develops professional writing skills for corporate communications and media, with applications across government, business, industry, not-for-profit and arts organisations, as well as magazine and book publishing. Offered within Curtin’s hands-on Master of Arts, it emphasises practical, industry-focused learning to support creative practice careers, with pathways for high-achieving students toward doctoral-level study in writing and publishing.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles such as publisher, journalist, copywriter, writer or editor, as well as communications positions in the Australian Public Service and state government. The major supports careers in arts media, corporate writing and editing for business, government and not-for-profit communications, and freelance or consulting work. It also aligns with marketing communications and advertising/copywriting careers for Master of Arts graduates in professional writing and publishing. Preparing graduates for advanced professional, specialist, and leadership roles in the discipline.
