About the course
The Master of Philosophy (Law) is a postgraduate research degree combining research training coursework with a substantial supervised thesis. You complete four compulsory research training courses to refine your topic, develop methodology and build critical analysis and scholarly writing skills, then undertake guided research culminating in a 35,000–40,000 word thesis examined externally. This is a Masters by research in Law. The programme develops legal research methodology, scholarly writing, and critical analysis for advanced professional and academic legal practice.

Graduates may pursue research-focused and specialist pathways in legal practice, policy and regulatory work, government and public service, compliance, advocacy and academia. The degree builds capability in research design, critical legal analysis and scholarly writing, supporting progression to further research study (including doctoral programs) or roles requiring advanced investigation and evidence-based legal advice.
