About the course
The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is a postgraduate research degree that builds advanced research capability through a combination of research training and an independent thesis project. You complete research training coursework early in the degree, then plan and conduct a substantial supervised research project culminating in a thesis of around 40,000 words (or equivalent). This specialisation is offered through the Faculty of Business and Law with a focus in finance.
Career outcome
Graduates develop strong research, analysis and academic writing skills suited to roles requiring evidence-based investigation and advanced problem solving. The MPhil can support pathways into PhD study and careers in research-intensive settings such as universities, government and policy units, consulting, and industry research teams. With the finance specialisation, graduates are prepared for research and analytical work in financial institutions, corporate finance and investment-related environments.
