About the course
Curtin’s Master of Philosophy (Electrical and Computer Engineering) is a higher degree by research that builds advanced knowledge beyond honours or a postgraduate diploma through a substantial supervised thesis. The program is predominantly research (at least two-thirds), with limited coursework where required, and develops your capability to design and complete independent research that contributes original knowledge. This is a master by research in electrical and computer engineering.
What you might learn
Develop advanced theoretical mastery and critical reflection, and the ability to investigate and synthesise complex concepts. You will generate and evaluate abstract ideas, design and apply appropriate research methods, and communicate research plans and results to peers and the wider community. The program culminates in independent research and dissemination that makes an original contribution to knowledge and/or professional practice in electrical and computer engineering.
Career outcome
Graduates typically progress into research-focused roles in industry, government or universities, applying advanced research skills to complex engineering problems. The MPhil can also support progression to doctoral study and careers in innovation-led R&D, systems and technology development, and specialist consultancy where rigorous investigation and thesis-level analysis are valued.
