About the course
Charles Sturt University’s Master of Pastoral Counselling provides advanced training in counselling theory and professional practice integrated within a theological framework. You can choose a clinical specialisation with field placement and intensives, or a research stream culminating in a dissertation. The course is designed to build applied skills, reflective practice and research capability, supporting pathways to counsellor registration in pastoral and broader community settings at master’s level in psychology.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue counselling and pastoral care roles where mental health support is central, across faith-based and other institutions. Career options include private practice counsellor, clinical or organisational staff counsellor, pastoral counsellor, registered counsellor, chaplain (hospital, military, school), aged care chaplain and pastoral care coordinator. The degree may also provide a pathway to further study through a higher degree by research in psychology.
