About the course
QUT’s Master of Optometry is a two-year full-time postgraduate coursework degree that builds advanced clinical skills for practice as an optometrist. You’ll develop competence in assessment, diagnosis and management of eye and vision conditions, supported by experienced clinician educators and hands-on learning. Training includes supervised patient care and practical experience to support eligibility for professional registration in optometry. The programme develops advanced clinical reasoning, health leadership, and evidence-based practice for complex care environments.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared to work as practising optometrists and pursue registration with the Optometry Board of Australia. Career pathways include private practice optometry, contact lens practice, paediatric vision care, occupational and public health vision services, and low-vision settings. The course’s strong clinical focus and patient-facing training supports entry into professional optometry roles in the health sector.
