About the course

The ANU Master of Neuroscience explores how the brain and nervous system shape behaviour and cognition, combining core theory with hands-on training in modern neuroscience methods. Based in the Eccles Institute of Neuroscience within the John Curtin School of Medical Research, students access state-of-the-art facilities and learn alongside leading researchers. This two-year Master’s develops advanced study in neuroscience within the sciences discipline. The programme deepens scientific methodology, data interpretation, and applied research skills for laboratory and field-based careers.

What you might learn

You will build advanced knowledge of cellular and systems neuroscience and learn contemporary experimental and analytical approaches used in brain research. The program develops skills in designing and communicating research through integrative coursework such as research proposal, readings and essay options, and a supervised research project. Graduates gain the capability to critically interpret evidence and apply neuroscience methods in Masters-level sciences study.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles in neuroscience and biomedical research, laboratory and research assistant positions, clinical and health research support, or research management in universities, medical research institutes and industry. The degree also provides a pathway toward higher research degrees and specialist scientific careers requiring strong analytical and communication skills. This Master’s supports professional progression in neuroscience-related sciences and research environments.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0. They must also have completed at least 8 courses in a cognate discipline with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0 (best 8 cognate courses may be used).
