About the course
ANU’s Master of Laws (LLM) is a one-year full-time coursework program designed to deepen understanding of how law operates in contemporary domestic and international contexts. It suits both law and non-law graduates and offers flexible study through semester-length, intensive and online-style learning options. Students can take a broad approach or focus on a specialist area within the ANU Law School.
What you might learn
You will build advanced knowledge of legal systems and institutions and strengthen your ability to analyse complex legal problems in a modern global setting. The program develops skills in legal reasoning, research and critical evaluation of law’s interaction with society, policy and commerce. Through high-level LAWS courses, you tailor electives to your interests and professional goals, including specialised streams.
Career outcome
Graduates can apply advanced legal and regulatory knowledge across government, international organisations, NGOs and the private sector. The LLM supports careers in legal practice, policy and legislative work, compliance and risk, corporate and commercial advisory roles, and international law-related fields. It can also strengthen pathways into research-focused roles and further postgraduate study in law and related disciplines.
Entry requirements
Applicants need a relevant qualification such as an LLB (including Honours), Juris Doctor, Graduate Certificate of Law, or a bachelor degree in a cognate discipline. Entry requires a minimum GPA of 5.0, or a minimum GPA of 4.0 with at least three years of relevant professional experience. Applicants must also meet ANU English language requirements; admission is competitive.
