About the course

The Master of International Journalism is designed for students who want to understand and produce journalism in an international field of practice, combining practical skills with insight into different professional traditions, cultures and industry challenges. It develops core reporting and production capabilities across news gathering and writing, video, audio, digital and social media, while examining how media operate in different cultures and markets. The course also emphasises areas where a transnational perspective is important, such as business and finance journalism, and prepares graduates for rapidly changing digital journalism environments.

What you might learn

Students develop practical journalistic capabilities in researching, interviewing, writing and producing stories across multiple platforms including audio, video and digital/social media. The course builds an international understanding of how journalism is shaped by differing regulatory, cultural and industry settings, and how these affect expectations and professional practice. Graduates are equipped to work confidently as adaptable practitioners in diverse international and digital media contexts.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue journalism roles in international and domestic news organisations, including positions as reporters, multimedia journalists and digital content producers. The transnational focus supports careers covering global issues and specialised beats such as business and finance journalism across varied cultural and regulatory environments. Skills gained are also relevant to broader media and communications roles requiring strong research, storytelling and cross-platform production expertise.

Entry requirements

English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 with writing 6.5 and no other band less than 6.0.
