About the course
The Master of Geoscience provides advanced training in understanding Earth’s geological processes and how they affect the modern world. Students build foundational geoscience knowledge in the first year and then choose from a wide range of specialist and elective subjects in the second year, including options offered through partner institutions. The course emphasises hands-on learning through laboratory and field-based study and includes an industry-relevant capstone project.
What you might learn
Students develop in-demand geological expertise across areas such as environmental impact assessment, resource exploration and hydrogeology, supported by practical field and laboratory skills. The program also builds professional capabilities valued by employers, including science communication and project management. Through projects and research opportunities, students strengthen their ability to investigate real geoscience problems and apply appropriate analytical and interpretive methods.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for roles across the minerals, energy, geotechnical and environmental geoscience sectors. Career pathways may include work in resource exploration, environmental assessment and management, hydrogeology, and geotechnical consulting with industry, government, or partner organisations. The course’s capstone and optional research/internship opportunities support transition into professional practice or further research study such as a PhD.
