About the course

This 72-unit program examines how language works and how it is used in real-world settings, combining general linguistics with applied perspectives. You can study areas such as structural linguistics, sociolinguistics, language acquisition, language contact, language teaching, forensic linguistics and language documentation, with an option to take additional language study. This is a Master coursework degree in linguistics and applied linguistics. The programme delivers postgraduate depth in theory, applied practice, and professional standards for specialist career progression.

What you might learn

You will build a strong grounding in linguistic theory and applied linguistics, and learn to analyse language structure, variation and change. The program develops research literacy through qualitative and quantitative methods and guided research projects, helping you interpret evidence and engage with contemporary scholarship. Entry requirements

Applicants need a Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with minimum GPA 5/7; or a Bachelor degree plus a Graduate Certificate/Diploma in a cognate discipline with minimum GPA 4/7; or a Bachelor degree with GPA 4/7 plus at least 3 years full-time equivalent relevant work experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1 related to the program.
