About the course

This Higher Degree by Research lets you pursue an independent, supervised engineering research project in a topic of your choice. You’ll work with experienced Deakin researchers to build advanced disciplinary knowledge and critical problem-solving capability, culminating in a substantial thesis (up to 50,000 words). The Master of Engineering builds research expertise and pathways into industry R&D or further research in engineering. The programme strengthens advanced engineering design, systems analysis, and innovation management for complex industry projects.

Graduates may move into engineering research and development roles across industry, government and consultancies, applying advanced investigation and problem-solving skills to complex technical challenges. The degree also supports progression to further research training such as doctoral study.
