About the course

The Master of Digital Humanities examines research approaches where humanities scholarship meets digital technologies. You explore critical, ethical and methodological questions around areas such as algorithmic agency and bias, digital archives, data sharing, and online cultural heritage. The program combines theoretical frameworks with hands-on digital methods and offers flexibility to tailor study to your interests, including engagement with ANU researchers and national cultural institutions.

What you might learn

You will build a grounding in digital humanities theories and debates while developing practical capability with digital methods, tools and project-based research. The degree supports students from humanities backgrounds seeking computational approaches, and those with technical experience seeking critical humanities perspectives. Through core methods courses and a capstone research project, you learn to design, evaluate and communicate ethically informed digital research in cultural and social contexts.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles that combine cultural expertise with digital capability across universities, galleries, libraries, archives, museums and government or policy settings. Potential pathways include digital humanities researcher, digital archivist, cultural data analyst, heritage or collections officer, project manager for digital cultural initiatives, or UX/content roles in cultural and creative organisations. This Masters supports professional work and further research in arts and humanities with digital methods.

Entry requirements

Entry requires either a cognate Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 5/7; or a Bachelor degree plus a Graduate Certificate/Graduate Diploma in a cognate discipline with minimum GPA 4/7; or a Bachelor degree with GPA 4/7 plus at least 3 years full-time equivalent relevant work experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1. Applicants must also meet ANU English Language Admission Requirements.
