About the course

The Master of Dance is an interdisciplinary program focused on dance as an embodied practice informed by contemporary aesthetics, dance science, cultural theory and the politics of everyday life. Students engage with practice-based research, dance theory and creative technologies while exploring social, political and cultural issues around embodiment, community, environment and movement cultures. The course includes core subjects and an extended research project, with opportunities for industry placement to support professional relevance and employability.

What you might learn

Students develop advanced capabilities in research-creation through making, writing and performing, underpinned by critical and contextual studies of dance and embodiment. The course builds skills in applied practice, including working in situ and undertaking placements, to extend professional practice across contemporary dance and performance contexts. It aims to equip graduates with the knowledge and tools to contribute to cultural and community outcomes through interdisciplinary, digitally enabled and somatic-informed approaches.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue specialised careers across the dance and performance sector, including choreography, performance and independent creative practice.
