About the course
Deakin’s Master of Counselling builds advanced analytical and communication skills to support individuals, couples and groups experiencing mild to moderate mental health and developmental challenges. You’ll learn to apply contemporary counselling theories and evidence-based talking therapies, and develop capability to work with diverse clients across the lifespan. The course includes 200 hours of supervised placement, preparing you for professional counselling practice at master’s level in psychology and mental health contexts.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for counselling roles across community, health and wellbeing settings, supporting clients with a range of everyday life and mental health challenges. Career pathways may include counsellor roles in community agencies, education-related services, family and relationship support, grief and trauma support programs, and organisational wellbeing services. The 200 hours of placement experience helps build readiness for supervised practice and progression into leadership or coordination roles within counselling services at master’s level in psychology and mental health.
