About the course
The Master of Computing is a two-year program designed for graduates without a computing background who want a solid foundation in computer science and professional software development. The degree is professionally accredited by the Australian Computer Society and offers pathways into industry practice or further study. Students choose a specialisation aligned to ANU research strengths and complete a capstone via an internship or a team-based client project.
What you might learn
You will build core knowledge of computing concepts, software engineering and construction, and responsible professional practice. The program develops skills in programming, problem solving, and applying modern tools and methods used in software development. Through a chosen specialisation—such as AI, machine learning, data science, systems or human-centred computing—you deepen expertise and integrate learning in a capstone internship or TechLauncher-style team project.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for roles in software and technology across government, consulting, startups and established industry. Depending on specialisation, career paths include software developer/engineer, data analyst or data scientist, machine learning or AI engineer, systems or infrastructure engineer, and technology consultant. The capstone internship or client project builds practical experience, teamwork and professional communication for R&D-focused roles or further postgraduate study.
Entry requirements
Applicants need a Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with at least GPA 5.0/7.0, or a Bachelor degree with GPA 4.0/7.0 plus 3 years full-time equivalent professional experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1 in a field related to the program. All applicants must also meet ANU English language requirements and are assessed competitively; meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
