About the course

ANU’s Master of Clinical Psychology provides contemporary training grounded in the scientist–practitioner model. You build a strong understanding of core clinical psychology areas while developing evidence-based assessment and intervention skills. The program combines structured coursework, supervised clinical placements and a research component, preparing graduates to contribute to mental health prevention and treatment across diverse settings.

What you might learn

You will develop advanced clinical knowledge and practical competencies in assessment, formulation and evidence-based psychological interventions. Training emphasises integrating scientific evidence with clinical decision-making, ethical and professional practice, and reflective skills. Through coursework, placements and a research project, you strengthen research literacy and the ability to evaluate and apply psychological science to real-world clinical problems.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for supervised practice pathways toward registration as a clinical psychologist, with roles in public and private health services, community mental health, hospitals and specialist clinics. Career directions can include assessment and treatment of mental health conditions, program evaluation, and applied research roles in health and wellbeing organisations. Skills are also relevant to policy, consulting and interdisciplinary clinical teams.

Entry requirements

Admission is competitive. Applicants need an APAC-accredited Bachelor degree with Honours in Psychology (or equivalent AQF Level 8 with substantial psychology research methods) with minimum GPA 5.5/7.0, plus two referee reports, CV and personal statement. Selection includes an interview/suitability assessment. Applicants must meet ANU English language requirements and be eligible for provisional or full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
