About the course

The Master of Climate Change provides advanced study across climate science and the policy responses needed to address climate risks. You explore impacts, adaptation and mitigation, and examine the economics, governance and legal dimensions of climate action. The program combines a core climate-focused syllabus with a wide range of electives across ANU, enabling a tailored study plan for different professional backgrounds in environmental policy and practice. The programme deepens scientific methodology, data interpretation, and applied research skills for laboratory and field-based careers.

What you might learn

You will build the ability to analyse climate change problems using interdisciplinary perspectives, linking scientific evidence with policy design and evaluation. The program develops skills in climate impacts assessment, adaptation and mitigation planning, and applying economic and governance frameworks to real-world challenges. Through research methods and a research project, you strengthen applied research, critical analysis, and communication for climate and environment decision-making.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles in climate and environmental policy, sustainability and net-zero strategy, climate risk and adaptation planning, and program evaluation. Career pathways span government departments, international organisations, NGOs, consulting firms, and corporate sustainability teams. The research and policy skills developed also support progression to analytical or advisory positions focused on climate governance and evidence-based decision-making in environmental science and policy.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements are not specified here. Applicants typically need a relevant bachelor degree (or equivalent) and may be assessed on prior study and professional experience. Credit and exemptions may be available for relevant previous study or work experience, including the pre-sessional component. English language proficiency requirements may apply for international applicants.
