About the course
The Master of Biomedical Science develops advanced research capability in biomedical and health science through discipline-specific coursework and a substantial research project. Students study in the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct and can undertake research projects with partner organisations, hospitals and institutes, gaining access to contemporary facilities and industry-connected learning. The course is designed to be flexible, allowing students to tailor subject choices toward industry-relevant skills and research interests.
What you might learn
Students build advanced biomedical science knowledge alongside practical research skills through an extended, authentic research project. The course aims to develop capabilities in planning and conducting research, working in laboratory and/or applied research environments, and engaging with experts across hospitals, institutes and research laboratories. Graduates are prepared with skills and experience suited to research-focused roles and as a pathway toward further research training such as a PhD.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue careers in biomedical research and related roles across hospitals, research institutes, universities and biotechnology organisations. The research project and industry-linked study support pathways into laboratory-based research, translational health research and research support roles in clinical and biomedical settings. The qualification also provides strong preparation for further study, including progression to PhD-level research.
