About the course
The Master of Bioinformatics is a coursework/research degree to be undertaken in key research areas in the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. You will gain advanced knowledge in areas of bioinformatics, including integration of different types of biological data. You will develop critical multidisciplinary bioinformatic skills gained by broad foundational studies in key concepts such us biostatistics, computational biology and genomics, and advanced case-based learning and research.
Career outcome
Graduates can work at the intersection of computing and life sciences, applying bioinformatic methods to genomics and biomedical data. Career paths may include bioinformatician, computational biologist, data analyst in genomics, or research roles in universities, medical research institutes, hospitals and biotechnology or pharmaceutical organisations. The degree also provides preparation for further research study. This is a Masters programme in IT & Computer Science. Preparing graduates for senior software engineering, data leadership, cybersecurity, and technology consultancy roles.
