About the course

The Foundation in Arts and Social Science (FASS) programme is designed to prepare students for degree-level study by providing a supportive transition from school to university. It introduces learners to a broad range of disciplines across humanities and social sciences, including communication and media arts, alongside exposure to pathways in business, hospitality, tourism and culinary arts. The programme emphasises practical learning through projects and teamwork while developing academic readiness.

What you might learn

Students will develop essential university study capabilities, including academic English, study skills, and the ability to use common computer applications. The programme aims to strengthen critical thinking, communication, and introductory research skills through coursework-based assessments and hands-on activities. It also builds foundational understanding of society and human behaviour through introductory subjects in areas such as psychology, sociology and media studies.

Career outcome

This foundation programme is a pathway qualification and is intended to prepare students for progression into undergraduate degrees rather than direct employment. Graduates can continue into degree programmes in humanities and social sciences, communication and media arts, business and management, or hospitality and tourism-related fields. Subsequent career options depend on the chosen degree pathway and may include roles across media, communications, business services, and social science-related industries.
