About the course
This diploma is designed to develop practical skills to interpret Auslan in general dialogue and monologue settings. You’ll build capability to work accurately and ethically across a range of community contexts, supported by industry-informed training and applied practice. It prepares you for entry-level interpreting work and further study in language and interpreting at diploma level. The programme develops classroom assistance skills, child development knowledge, and educational support practice.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue work as an Auslan interpreter in community and public service contexts, supporting communication access for Deaf and hard of hearing people. Typical opportunities include freelance or agency-based interpreting and roles in education, health, community organisations and events. The qualification supports entry to professional pathways in interpreting within the languages and translating sector. Preparing graduates for teacher aide, early childhood support, and education assistant roles, or degree articulation.
