About the course

This flexible Graduate Diploma lets you broaden scientific knowledge or build expertise in areas not covered in your earlier studies, within a chosen science specialisation. It is designed for students seeking advanced coursework across a range of science disciplines and can also provide a pathway for those without an Honours Bachelor degree to progress toward further higher-degree study at ANU.

What you might learn

You will complete 48 units, including substantial 6000- and 8000-level study in your chosen science area. The program develops advanced disciplinary understanding and the ability to engage with higher-level scientific concepts and methods. By selecting courses across approved subject areas, you can tailor learning to strengthen prior foundations, extend into new fields, and prepare for further postgraduate study.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles requiring advanced scientific knowledge across government, industry, research organisations and the environment and health sectors. Depending on your chosen specialisation, opportunities can include laboratory and technical positions, data and analysis roles, science communication, environmental and health program support, or preparation for further postgraduate qualifications that lead to research or specialist professional pathways.

Entry requirements

Applicants need a recognised Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) in a cognate discipline with a minimum GPA of 4.0/7.0. Admission is competitive and applicants must also meet ANU English language requirements. Ranking may consider GPA calculations across different parts of prior study and, where relevant, higher English proficiency. Qualifications are assessed and converted to ANU’s 7-point GPA scale.
