About the course

This one-year graduate diploma introduces applied data analytics through best-practice approaches and contemporary courses for professionals and aspiring practitioners. Students build capability across data management, programming, data mining, statistics and social science methods, with options to deepen expertise in computation, statistics or social science. Teaching is primarily semester-based, with an intensive blended mode available for domestic students to support working-study patterns.

What you might learn

The program aims to develop practical, job-ready data analytics capability, combining core skills in relational databases, programming, data mining and statistical modelling with an understanding of social science data and policy evaluation. Students learn to select appropriate methods, analyse and interpret data for real problems, and communicate evidence-based insights. It also supports professional development and provides an opportunity to undertake research or applied work of professional relevance.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles applying analytics to organisational and policy challenges across government, business and research settings. Typical pathways include data analyst, business/operations analyst, analytics consultant, policy or program evaluation analyst, and junior data science roles where strong foundations in databases, programming and statistical modelling are required. The interdisciplinary focus supports work with diverse datasets and stakeholders, including projects that combine technical methods with social and economic context.

Entry requirements

Applicants need a bachelor degree (or equivalent) meeting GPA thresholds: honours degree with minimum GPA 4.0/7.0; or bachelor degree with GPA 4.0/7.0 plus at least 1 year relevant work experience; or bachelor degree with minimum GPA 5.0/7.0. Applicants must also meet ANU English language requirements, and admission is competitive so meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee an offer.
