About the course
The Graduate Diploma of Surgical Education is an industry-leading program for surgeons and other procedural clinicians who want to develop expertise in teaching and learning within surgical training. Delivered fully online through the Department of Surgery in partnership with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), it focuses on educational practice suited to diverse clinical settings and the complex skills required for safe surgical practice. The course is designed to be flexible for practising professionals and also provides a pathway into the Master of Surgical Education.

Students build a strong foundation in contemporary educational practice to optimise surgical training and assessment in real clinical environments. The course develops capability to design, deliver and evaluate surgical education that responds to workplace-based learning challenges and emerging technologies in surgery and training. Graduates strengthen their effectiveness as educators and leaders within surgical education programs.

Graduates can progress into roles supporting and leading surgical and procedural education in hospitals, colleges and clinical training programs.
