About the course
This Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice provides specialised Practical Legal Training (PLT) for law graduates seeking admission to the legal profession in Western Australia. Approved by the Legal Practice Board of WA, it covers civil litigation, commercial and corporate practice, and property practice, alongside core professional skills such as advocacy, dispute resolution, drafting and interviewing. Delivery is based in Perth CBD with evening classes and no exams, plus required workplace experience or clinic placement.
What you might learn
You will learn to research, interpret and apply WA and Commonwealth law in professional practice; analyse complex legal problems and develop reasoned solutions; gather and synthesise client and legal-source information into clear advice and documents; and communicate effectively with clients, courts and colleagues. The course also builds digital legal research capability, reflective professional learning, cross-cultural communication, and ethical and professional responsibility for competent legal practice.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for entry into legal practice roles following admission requirements, with pathways into work as a lawyer or barrister. The practical focus and workplace/clinical experience support employment across private legal practice and in-house counsel settings, as well as roles connected to courts and tribunals, government, and regulated industries such as banking and finance, and resources and renewables. This graduate diploma is a PLT-focused qualification in Law.
