About the course
The Graduate Diploma in Arts at the University of Melbourne builds a foundation for further study and research by developing analytical and critical capabilities and an understanding of key issues and conceptual frameworks in your chosen area. Students can study contemporary disciplines such as anthropology, gender studies and creative writing, or pursue language study, and tailor their program through a range of electives with flexible options including evening classes.
What you might learn
Students develop core academic skills for advanced study in arts disciplines, including critical analysis, communication and problem-solving applied to contemporary contexts. The course aims to introduce learners (especially those changing fields) to a specialised area with no assumed prior knowledge, building a coherent base for progression to further postgraduate study.
Career outcome
Graduates gain transferable skills in critical thinking, communication and analysis that support roles across government, community organisations, media, education support, cultural institutions and business contexts. The qualification can also provide a pathway to further study, including the Graduate Diploma in Arts (Advanced) and a range of masters by coursework, helping graduates move into more specialised professional or research-focused directions.
Entry requirements
Designed for students who have an undergraduate degree in an unrelated area of study. IELTS 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.
