About the course

This Graduate Diploma qualifies you to work as an archivist or records manager across community and national archives and records offices in government, non-profit and corporate organisations. You’ll develop skills to manage and preserve archives, design recordkeeping systems, and critically evaluate recordkeeping as it relates to accountability, identity, memory and social justice. The course includes a three-week practicum to build practical experience and professional networks.

What you might learn

You’ll learn to apply archival science and records management theory and practice, develop innovative solutions to complex professional issues, and use information technologies to communicate with diverse stakeholders. You’ll also build ethical and culturally capable information practices, including awareness of Indigenous perspectives, and strengthen autonomy, accountability and collaboration expected in professional archives and records management work.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles in archives and records offices across government, non-profit, corporate and community organisations. Typical pathways include archivist, records manager, information/records officer, and roles supporting digital recordkeeping, compliance and governance. The practicum provides workplace experience and networking opportunities, supporting entry into professional practice in archives and records management at graduate diploma level. Preparing graduates for senior management, consulting, entrepreneurship, and organisational leadership roles.
