About the course
This apprenticeship qualification prepares you for work as a painter and decorator in residential and commercial settings. You’ll develop practical skills in surface preparation and applying paint, wallpaper and other coatings, along with safe use of tools, equipment and materials. Training also covers colour matching and working safely on site, including using restricted-height scaffolding, to support job-ready trade outcomes in the building and construction industry. The programme focuses on applied engineering drawings, workshop skills, and technical maintenance competencies.

Graduates can pursue work as a painter and decorator across domestic and commercial projects. Typical work includes preparing and coating interior and exterior surfaces using paint, wallpaper and protective finishes, while following safe construction-site practices.
