About the course
This intermediate-level course prepares you for work in marine craft construction as a boat builder and repairer. You’ll build practical skills and technical knowledge across different vessel types, with hands-on workshop training guided by industry-experienced teachers. Training covers safe work practices, trade drawing and lofting, materials, composite and timber construction, and repair and maintenance methods. This is a Certificate III qualification in marine craft construction. The programme focuses on applied engineering drawings, workshop skills, and technical maintenance competencies.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles in marine craft construction and repair across boatbuilding and maintenance workplaces. Typical outcomes include work as a shipwright or as a boat builder/repairer, including specialisations in wooden and aluminium boats and in moulding and fibreglass/composite construction. The skills support fit-outs, repairs, and producing templates and patterns from full-size drawings. This is a Certificate III pathway into the marine craft construction trade. Preparing graduates for engineering technician, draftsperson, and technical service roles, or degree articulation.
