About the course
This practical apprenticeship-focused qualification builds core skills to service and repair light vehicles. You’ll learn to diagnose faults, communicate with customers, and work on key systems such as engines, transmissions, suspension, steering and brakes, plus cooling, fuel, air conditioning and emissions systems. Training is industry informed and uses current techniques and technology to prepare you for trade recognition as a light vehicle mechanic. The programme focuses on applied engineering drawings, workshop skills, and technical maintenance competencies.

Graduates are prepared for work in automotive service and repair settings as a light vehicle mechanic. Typical work includes diagnosing vehicle faults, performing routine servicing, and repairing or replacing components across engines, drivetrains, braking, steering and suspension systems, as well as air conditioning and emissions-related systems. This Certificate III supports progression to recognition as a qualified light vehicle tradesperson in the automotive industry. Preparing graduates for engineering technician, draftsperson, and technical service roles, or degree articulation.
