This entry-level qualification introduces core design principles and practical skills to start a career in the creative industries. You’ll build foundational capability in visual communication, including exploring colour, producing drawings and generating design solutions, with support from experienced teachers. The course prepares you for junior assistant roles and provides a pathway to further study in design at Certificate III level. The programme trains digital design tools, visual production, and portfolio development for creative workplaces.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue entry-level work supporting creative and corporate design teams. Typical pathways include Junior Graphic Design Assistant or junior design support roles, assisting with basic layout and visual tasks, developing concepts, and contributing to simple design solutions. The qualification also supports progression into further study to broaden skills and opportunities in design and visual communication at Certificate III level. Preparing graduates for junior designer, production assistant, and multimedia support roles, or degree articulation.
