This apprenticeship qualification develops practical skills to work as a civil construction plant operator. You’ll build capability to operate safely across infrastructure projects such as subdivisions, bridges, rail, harbours, drainage and pipeline works. Training supports both new entrants and experienced workers seeking recognition, with exposure to common civil plant and equipment used on worksites. It prepares you for trade-qualified plant operations and further study in civil construction.

Graduates can pursue work in the civil construction sector on major infrastructure and earthworks projects. Typical outcomes include roles such as civil construction worker, plant operator and earthmoving plant operator, operating equipment like excavators, loaders, water carts and haul trucks while following safety and site procedures. The Certificate III supports employment progression in civil construction plant operations and pathways to further training in the field. Preparing graduates for engineering technician, draftsperson, and technical service roles, or degree articulation.
