About the course
This graduate certificate develops practical capability in contemporary regulation and governance in Australian and international contexts. It explores core themes such as regulatory complexity, risk-based approaches, responsiveness, compliance and enforcement, technology and regulation, and stakeholder management. The program is designed for professionals working in government, business or NGOs who manage—or plan to manage—regulatory portfolios and projects, using applied case studies and assessments.
What you might learn
You will build an applied understanding of how regulatory systems are designed, implemented and evaluated across jurisdictions. The program strengthens skills in analysing regulatory problems, assessing risk, selecting appropriate regulatory tools, and improving compliance and governance outcomes. Through real-world cases and hands-on assessment, students learn to work effectively with stakeholders and to respond to emerging challenges such as disruptive technologies and complex regulatory environments.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles in regulation, governance and policy across public agencies, industry, and not-for-profits. Potential pathways include regulatory policy officer/adviser, compliance and enforcement practitioner, governance or risk specialist, program/project manager for regulatory initiatives, and stakeholder engagement roles. The qualification supports professionals working with regulators, legislatures, community organisations and the media, and can also serve as a pathway to further study in regulation and governance.

Applicants must meet one of the following: a Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with minimum GPA 4.0/7.0; or at least 5 years’ relevant work experience in regulatory system design, monitoring/compliance or enforcement (with evidence); or at least 10 years’ work experience in ANZSCO Skill Level 1 roles.
