About the course

The Graduate Certificate of Public Health at ANU provides a flexible postgraduate introduction to population health, designed for professionals seeking to pivot into public health or strengthen existing foundations. It also functions as a pathway into more advanced public health coursework programs, and may serve as an exit award for students who have completed 24 units toward a related postgraduate degree.

What you might learn

You will build core public health capability through population health coursework, including foundational understanding of epidemiology and the social determinants of health. The program develops your ability to interpret public health evidence, understand drivers of health outcomes, and apply population health concepts across diverse settings. Study is structured around 24 units and draws on 8000-level Population Health courses for depth and flexibility.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for entry-level or transitioning roles across public health practice, policy and program environments. Typical opportunities include work in government and non-government health agencies, health policy and planning, community and preventive health programs, and research-support roles where epidemiological evidence and population health perspectives inform decision-making. The qualification can also support progression into further postgraduate study in public health.

Entry requirements

Available for admission for domestic students only (may be used as an exit pathway by domestic and international students). Applicants need a Bachelor degree (or Grad Dip/Grad Cert) with minimum GPA 4/7, or 24 postgraduate units with GPA 4/7. Alternative pathways include GRE (min 155 Verbal, 155 Quant, 4.0 Writing) plus relevant ANZSCO Skill Level 1 work experience, or at least 5 years relevant work experience. English language requirements also apply.
