About the course

This graduate certificate is an exit pathway for students in the Master of Applied Cybernetics who complete the first semester of study. It recognises foundational postgraduate learning in applied cybernetics, focusing on understanding complex cybernetic systems and building cyber-physical systems through a compact, intensive set of compulsory courses delivered in person at ANU’s School of Cybernetics.

What you might learn

You will develop applied cybernetics capability to frame and investigate questions about cybernetic systems and to design and build cyber-physical systems. The program strengthens advanced analytical, technical and communication skills, including selecting and applying suitable methods, interpreting and communicating results, and working independently and collaboratively on challenges involving complex, interconnected systems.

Career outcome

Graduates gain foundational applied cybernetics skills that support work in technology, engineering and systems-focused roles where complex cyber-physical and socio-technical systems are analysed and designed. The credential can assist progression in roles involving systems thinking, modelling, prototyping and evaluation of cybernetic systems, and communication of technical outcomes to diverse stakeholders across industry, government and research settings.

Entry requirements

This program is an exit award only and is not available for direct admission. To be awarded the Graduate Certificate, students must be enrolled in the Master of Applied Cybernetics and complete 24 units, specifically the two compulsory courses: CYBN6001 Framing Questions about Cybernetic Systems (12 units) and CYBN8001 Building Cyber-Physical Systems (12 units, Semester One).
